Tomorrow is my ';quit date'; to quit smoking... anyone here have any tips?

I really DON'T want to quit. I like to smoke. But, I really don't feel that it should be the sole responsibility of smokers to subsidize children's' health care. So, I am not going to contribute to it.

I am putting a patch on tonight, and I thought that I would go running in the morning. I haven't ran since I got out of the Navy 4 years ago and I used to run A LOT.

Any tips?Tomorrow is my ';quit date'; to quit smoking... anyone here have any tips?
Throw out any cigarettes you have and no matter how tempted you are, don't buy anymore. Good luck. I quit four years ago, and it was the best thing I ever did for my health.Tomorrow is my ';quit date'; to quit smoking... anyone here have any tips?
You gotta wanna quit, and you aren't there yet ! It is something that usually works if you are doing it for yourself, not others. In your case, it sounds like an economic move, which might work too !

Running is good, but sometimes exercise also builds appetites. Not a good thing when your metabolism is slowing down with the absence of nicotine. You need to put yourself on a practical diet, unless the average 25# doesn't bother you. That's probably a realistic statistic for smokers who become non smokers.

Once you think you're over the hump and have licked the habit, do not go back. Not even for one, or a cigar. It's that easy to get hooked again. Be especially wary when drinking this is when people lose their inhibitions, and that is when they get hooked again. Remember, not even one !

Doing it cold turkey twenty five years ago, I found the intense craving was gone after a week. Take it a week at a time, if you're determined, take it two weeks if you survive the first week. Keep up the short commitments until you think it's time to take it a month at a time.

Remember, for the weak, giving up smoking is easy to do, I've done it many times ! I haven't painted the most optimistic scenario, but it is realistic. Give em up now, and live an extra twenty years. Good luck pal, I'm rootin for ya !
Especially if you smoke menthols, a bag of Halls cough drops!

Whenever you feel like a cig, substitute a Halls and inhale deeply. If a cig with coffee is part of your routine, try switching to tea and the cough drop helps then too because the heat makes the menthol feel stronger. Running or even brisk walks are good because it will help keep your mind off cigs and the extra pounds off your waistline.

If you think it might work for you, carry around an unopened pack. You might as well because it takes willpower to quit so your willpower will keep you from opening the pack. But sometimes it's just comforting to have that pack. I kind of mangled mine by squeezing it a lot, but didn't open it.

After you've had your last cig, you might want to change your bedding and lay your clothes out so you won't smell smoke first thing in the morning. It will take awhile, but at some point you might open your closet and the smell of stale smoke on clothes will gag you. I didn't mind the smell of fresh smoke, but stale smoke really bothered me.

Good luck!!
Personally, I think it should be the PARENTS' responsibility to subsidize health-care for children.

But since you've taken this stand (and it's one I've offered to other smokers):

Abraham Lincoln failed several times before he ran successfully for public office.

Thomas Edison found 6000 ways NOT to make a light bulb before he finally got it right.

My father quit several times before my mother passed away; but since she would NEVER quit, it was useless for him to try. When she finally quit (hard to smoke from the grave) he was able to quit for good. And he hasn't smoked in 7 years.

The key to quitting is finding a reason TO QUIT that is MORE IMPORTANT to you than all your reasons WHY (with apologies to George Jones).

Good luck - and welcome to the Teaparty Nation.
lol i feel ya, here is what my best friend did, she got those foot patch things that help get the toxins out, she also drank a lot of anything other than liquor and started doing some major walking, she is four weeks smoke free without the help of any type of aid...if she can do it you can do it...when i stopped for six months two years ago..lol should never have picked them back up....anyway..i drank a lot of water, and took a lot of showers...you have to get the nicotine out of your skin...also gum...works wonders..makes your jaws sore but its great....
There are many ways of quiting and its really about finding the fit for you. It has been almost 4 years since I have smoked. I started by picking a date . I then, slowly cut back the amount everyday leading to my quit by date. I purchased Big Red gum and mints to occupy my mouth when I got the urge for a smoke. I also , to this day, keep toothpicks for when I am inside my car, home and at work. Good Luck.
YOU WILL FAIL

why?

';I really DON'T want to quit.';

the only way to quit successfully is to REALLY WANT TO.

I smoked a pack a day for 20 years.

When I made up my mind that I wanted to quit for MY OWN REASONS, it was surprisingly easy.

Here's why:

You get a craving...

if you DON'T want to quit the craving gets HUGE.

if you DO want to quit the craving stays small.

It is just that simple.

Cravings will either snowball till they are unbearable, or they will stay small %26amp; manageable

AND THE ONLY THING THAT CAN MAKE THE DIFFERENCE IS WHETHER OR NOT YOU REALLY WANT TO QUIT.
Go cold turkey. Don't do it for the kids. One way or another there WILL some form of Universal Health INSURANCE and after it's installed nobody will want to go back to the half @ss system that we have now where some pay double and others have no venue to pay at all. You'll win two ways..one, you won't smoke anymore and two, you'll have affordable health INSURANCE. What a deal!
Keep your mind off them... work day to day... say ';I just wont smoke today... i'll smoke again tomorrow.'; keep saying that every single day. almost like your procrastinating on a project you don't want to do. Good luck! And good job for choosing to quit... you could also look up disgusting facts about what smoking does to the body. that should help you not want to smoke.
I had trouble with the patches. They made my arm cramp when it was placed and I had extremely vivid nightmares. I took them off at night.

The only way I was able to quit for good was when I found out I was pregnant. I refused to be the responsible party if my baby was born messed up.

Good luck. I quit all alcohol and my next goal is giving up the smokes.
Put one additional minute between each use. If that doesn`t work one additional second. If you fail you will probably die from the habit because the proportion of Americans using tobacco is almost the same as that of those who are dying from it.http://cancer.gov.cancertopics/statistic鈥?/a>
Try going to Quitnet.org

It helped me. You'll have alot of people helping you.

Also a bowl of sunflower seeds on your desk helps with the oral fixation.

You can do it!!
Just forget about it.

Also, in the begining do not hang around people that smoke.
Chew Nicorete gum like a horse. I see smokers smacking gum like wilder beast all the time.
if you have the will power to wake up and run... quitting should be easy... if you find out how to stop.. let me know so I can tell my dad.. he can't stop...
I don't smoke and I never have but I have heard about an E cigarette that supposed to be great.
